Description:

This one-day training is primarily geared toward substance abuse professionals and will provide participants with basic and updated information about HIV other STDs. This includes risk factors, modes of transmission, signs and symptoms, prevention, the relationship between HIV and other STDs. Updated information on mother-to-child transmission and prevention and an overview of the epidemic is also covered. Anyone is welcome to attend.

OBJECTIVES:

Participants will:

  • Increase knowledge level about HIV sexual transmission and prevention
  • Increase knowledge level of HIV among substance users.
  • Increase knowledge about mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
  • Increase ability to discuss the national and global impact of HIV.
  • Increase understanding of HIV Re-infection and adherence
  • Increase ability to discuss the inter-relationship of HIV and other STDs.

    Presented By:

    James Agostinho Figueiredo, Ed.M., is the Director of the Training & Education Program at the Justice Resource Institute in Boston. He is currently a Visiting Lecturer at Tufts University. He holds a Masters Degree in Education from Harvard University. For over 15 years, he has worked in the HIV field as an educator, hotline screener, outreach worker, counselor, case manager, and program manager. He conducts trainings internationally to help raise the skill levels of educators and counselors in the HIV field. Mr. Figueiredo is the principal author of over 30 curricula that have been commissioned and/or implemented by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Harvard University, African Community Health Initiative, and Boston Medical Center.
