Description:

This course will review how to determine a Five Axis diagnosis for co-occurring disorders according to the DSM-IV-TR. A detailed presentation of Axis I and Axis II disorders will be presented, as well as, how to identify and implement co-occurring specific treatment goals in recovery planning. Participants will 1) become familiar with the structure of the DSM-IV-TR and the Five Axis diagnostic process, 2) gain an understanding of both Axis I and Axis II disorders and how to make a differential diagnosis, 3) be able to identify differences between post-acute withdrawal and early recovery concerns and psychiatric symptoms, 4) become familiar with the symptoms and syndromes most commonly misdiagnosed in co-occurring populations, and 5) understand how to approach treatment and recovery considerations of Axis I and Axis II disorders when co-occurring with substance abuse and dependence.

 
Presented By:

Dr. Moreggi is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Connecticut and has been a mental health consultant and trainer in the substance abuse field for over 10 years. She is currently in a joint position at the University of New Haven as the Assistant Director of the Counseling Center and also faculty in the Psychology Department, and has been an Adjunct Professor at the New England School of Addiction Studies since 1998. Dr. Moreggi also has a private practice in Milford, CT, and works as a private consultant and trainer within the realm of co-occurring disorders and substance abuse treatment.
